Expatriate journalist Nobonita Chowdhury has said that the National Citizen Party (NCP) needs to find a new father (patron) as it continues to deny the contribution of Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, the army and the army intelligence agency in unseating the Awami League and forming the NCP, better known as a Kingโs party.
After the recent criticisms of NCP Convener and former adviser Nahid Islam against Jamaat, its Secretary General Mia Ghulam Parwar retaliated, saying that the Kingโs party should not compete with its father. Nahid said that Jamaat had resorted to cheating with regard to the July Charter. Jamaat has carried out a kind of sabotage with the nation, entered the reform talks and turned it into a discussion of their campaign for the Proportional Representation or PR system.
The NCP did not sign the charter, but Jamaat did so despite its previous stance not to sign it with a provision of the PR system.
Over the last few months, the NCP and its leaders have continuously become powerless and irrelevant, Nobonita said, adding that Jamaat, BNP and Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman were their fathersโthe source of all their strength, ability, and manpower. But now the NCP has made the BNP completely orphaned.

In October 2023, a group of two or three people suddenly emerged and established the Ganatantrik Chhatra Shakti, which organised the anti-quota movement. But it did not happen without patronisation.
Dr. Syed Muhammad Taher is the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami. He directly said in an interview with the BBC Bangla that the intelligence agencies knew that Jamaat was behind the movement. โThat is why they banned us, they banned Shibir. They did not ban any other party.โ
He said that they were very aware that this was a movement of Jamaat-Shibir. So, it would not be published. โWe wanted to give it a universal form, so that even those who do not like Jamaat-e-Islami should not have any reservations about this movement.โ

That is why Jamaat-e-Islami played a key role through Chhatra Shibir. They played a role from behind to ensure everyone’s participation.
Jamaat-Shibir had also prepared leaders like Nahid Islam for a long time, according to Dr. Taher.
A pro-BNP physician and columnist, Dr. Shakhawat Hossain Shayanto, on a private television talk show, clearly said that when he was in prison in August last year, along with many leaders, Dr. Taher told him that Nahid Islam was their key representative.
โThere were also two leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in jail. One day Dr. Taher asked me if I knew Nahid. I said, โI know him from the media.โ He asked me whether I had met him (Nahid). I said, โNo, I have never met him.โโ

Dr. Taher then said: โWe groomed himโฆwe prepared him. He has always been in close contact with us.โ
Since the fall of the Awami League government, Nahid Islam and his party leaders have been denying the contribution of Jamaat-Shibir, even though Jamaat-Shibir helped the NCP in its formation and holding political meetings.
Earlier, Nahid Islam said that Chhatra Shibir was not with their movement. At that time, Abu Shadik Kayem, the president of Dhaka University unit of Chhatra Shibir, said directly on a television channel that they had created Nahid Islam’s party and before that, Nurul Haque Nur’s Chhatra Odhikar Parishad (COP). That party was also their creation. So, Jamaat-Shibir gave birth to Nurโs student organisation, which has now become Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP).
COPโs Nurul Haque Nuru and Akhtar Hossain have now become national leaders. They were also elected in the DUCSU polls in 2019.
Shadik also said that Mahfuj Alam had contacted him for suggestions. Mahfujโs friend is Akhtar Hossain.
In October 2023, Akhtar Hossain, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain were brought in by Jamaat to form the Chhatra Shakti, which led the July-August movement in 2024.
So, the Jamaat-Shibir, through their strategies, political foresight, and organisational strength, created these leaders one after another and formed groups of these leaders.
