Amid an atmosphere of lawlessness and mob violence, newspapers have reported at least 15 murders in various districts, including Dhaka, in the span of two days. Of the victims, four were lynched in Dhaka, Narsingdi, Barisal and Coxโs Bazar.
In Narayanganj’s Araihazar, former Union Parishad member Sohel Ahmed, 32, was beaten to death by a mob on Monday morning at Baliapara Bazar in Brahmandi Union. Sohel is the son of Makbul Mia of Baliapara village and a member of Ward No. 3 of Brahmandi Union. He was involved in Awami League politics.
In Narsingdi, a theft took place at Monowar Hossain Rana’s pharmacy in front of the gate of Shibpur Upazila Health Complex on Friday midnight. Pharmacy owner Rana went to the spot after receiving information from the locals. On hearing his screams, locals came forward and arrested a youth named Saiful, 30, on charges of theft and beat him up. He was first taken to Shibpur Upazila Health Complex and later to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital in his injured condition. He died there on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment. Saiful is the son of Ali Hossain of Vitichinadi village in Dulalpur union of the upazila.
A youth named Shakil Hossain was beaten to death over a land dispute in Dhamrai, Dhaka. The incident took place at around 10pm on Friday in Dakshin Khagail village near Singhshri Bazar. He died on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment.
In Barisal, police recovered the body of a man named Sohel Khan, 35, in Bakerganj. His body was recovered from the Char Kabai area on Sunday morning. He was tied to a tree and beaten to death overnight, calling him a robber. Sohel is a farmer by profession. On Saturday night, an announcement was made on the mosque’s microphone that he was a robber. Later, he was captured and beaten up. After confirming his death, the police were informed.
An autorickshaw garage owner named Gias Uddin was beaten to death in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. The body was recovered from near the Siddique petrol pump in the municipal area on Sunday morning.
CNG-driven autorickshaw driver Mohammad Harun was stabbed to death by his neighbour Khoka Mia on Sunday morning in a land dispute in the Fultala area of โโChakaria.
A man named Lalon Ali, 35, was hacked to death by his opponents in Charghat, Rajshahi. He is the son of Laban Ali of Chak Muktarpur village. On Friday morning, he was hacked by some people at the Muktarpur Kubaj intersection of Charghat Municipality, leaving him seriously injured.

The body of a cashier at the Imambagh branch of Standard Chartered Bank named Nazrul Islam, 43, has been recovered from his house in the capitalโs Lalbagh Zamzam Tower. The man had injury marks on his neck and various parts of his body. Nazrul’s wife Fahima Sharmin, children and mother-in-law were at the house at the time of the incident.
A man named Amir Lal Sardar, 50, was stabbed to death allegedly in a business dispute in the capital’s Chawkbazar on Friday. The deceased is the son of Taleb Sardar of Gournadi upazila of Barisal. He lived with his family in a packaging factory in Kalibari.
A timber trader named Farhad Hossain has been hacked to death in Mirzapur, Tangail. On Sunday afternoon, he was sitting at a tea shop in Sonalia Abu Market area of โโMirzapur. Suddenly, Matiar Rahman of that area stabbed him from behind. Later, when he was taken to Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur, the doctor declared him dead.
The body of a woman named Sarna Begum, 75, with her throat slit, has been recovered from the Tingaon area of โโAraihazar in Narayanganj. She used to cook in a mess in Tingaon area. Locals found her body on the roof of the building on Friday evening.
A day after his disappearance in Kaunia, Rangpur, the police have recovered the body of Mobarak Ali, the joint convener of the Tepamadhupur Union Krishak Dal. His body, buried in the ground, was recovered from behind the house of his neighbour Nazrul Islam, on Friday night. Mubarak Ali had been missing since 9pm last Thursday.
Three days after going missing in Nandail, Mymensingh, the police have found the body of a young man named Alamgir Hossain Alim, 32, in a sack. The body was found buried in a forest pond near Sangramkali Bazar in the upazila on Sunday afternoon. Alamgir went to Atabur’s shop in Sangramkali Bazar on Wednesday night. He has been missing since then. Alamgir used to protest the drug trade by local shopkeepers Atabur, Saidul, Masud and Sadek.
Meanwhile, a day after he went missing in Palash, Narsingdi, the railway police have recovered the body of a young man named Gani Mia. The body was recovered from the side of the railway line at Ghorashal station on Sunday morning. He had returned home on leave three months ago and went missing after leaving his house on Friday night.
In Satkania, Chittagong, police have recovered the body of a madrasa student named Yasin Arafat, 13. The body was recovered from a canal near Alia Madrasa in Dakshin Charpara on Sunday. Arafat is the son of Saudi expatriate Abul Kalam of Dakshin Char Para and a student of the Hefz department of Khaled Bin Walid Madrasa of the municipality. Arafat left the madrasa on Thursday afternoon and did not return home.
