A group of students of Jahangirnagar University held a torch procession and burnt effigies in protest against the exhibition of pictures of convicted war criminals (razakars) at Dhaka University on the anniversary of the July Uprising.
The torch procession was taken out from the university’s Battala area around 10pm on Wednesday, under the banner of progressive students.
The procession went around the streets adjacent to the seven student halls and ended at Battala again. Later, they burnt an effigy with โrazakarโ written on it.

Meanwhile, during the torchlight procession of progressive students, another group of students raised various provocative slogans from the universityโs AFM Kamaluddin Hall, Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Hall, Hall No. 21, Shaheed Rafiq-Jabbar Hall and Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
After the torch procession, they held a brief rally. The rally was moderated by the organiser of the university branch of the Student Front, Sohagi Samia.

At the rally, ARK Russell, a student of the Bengali department, said: โThe pictures of the Razakars who held the national flag of Bangladesh in a frame were exhibited by Shibir at Dhaka University yesterday. Nothing can be more painful than the pictures of the Razakars being displayed at Dhaka University.โ
He also said: โSince August 5, whenever we have wanted to talk about the Liberation War, we have been tagged as friends of the Awami League. But talking about the Liberation War does not mean being friends of the Awami League. The Liberation War is a burning fact of this country, and politics in this country must be done by embracing this fact.โ

Jahidul Islam, president of a section of the Studentsโ Union, said that if there is an attempt to normalise the razakars in the future or at any time now, under any pretext, then the freedom-loving students and public will not tolerate it in any way.
