The Gono Forum has expressed strong anger, condemnation, and protest over the questions raised in the July Declaration about the 1972 Constitution-making process and structural weaknesses.
Gono Forum founder Dr Kamal Hossain was the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee.
The Gono Forum President’s Council expressed this condemnation at a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release.
The meeting, chaired by the acting president Subrata Chowdhury, was also attended by the party’s General Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman, members of the President’s Council Jaglul Haider Afrik, Mushtaq Ahmed, Mezbah Uddin, Selim Akbar, Suraiya Begum, Shah Nuruzzaman and others.
The leaders stated that after the Declaration of Independence on March 26, 1971, and the Liberation War based on the Proclamation of Independence on April 10, and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Bangladesh, the Constitution of Bangladesh was written in 1972, continuing this process.
In the long 53 years, no political party or government has ever raised questions about the 1972 Constitution-making process.

July Declaration: Yunus glorifies anti-Bangladesh elements, distorts history
The Constitution can be amended, supplemented, and revised as per the needs of the people, the meeting said, stating that if the process of formulating the Constitution is questioned, the Liberation War itself is questioned.
โOnly the forces opposing the liberation war have raised questions about the Liberation War and the โ72 Constitution at different times. The interim government has called the Liberation War and the July-August uprising into question by creating controversy in the July declaration over the process of formulating the โ72 Constitution and structural weaknesses,โ the statement said.
โThe low mentality of hiding the failure of the subsequent governments to run the state by blaming only the โ72 Constitution has been observed. It would not be reasonable to impose the failure of the political party in running the state on the constitution in any way.โ
The Gono Forum also alleged that discrimination was made in the preparation of the July Declaration and in accepting the opinions of various political parties. The party leaders said that the July uprising took place to demand the formation of a non-discriminatory state system.
The July Declaration did not contain any outline of the future state system. The July Declaration is one-sided and biased, and attempts to distort history are noticeable. On the other hand, discrimination has been created between political parties in the July 36 celebration, which is undesirable, the party said.
