Chief of the Qawmi madrasa-based platform, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari, has recently said that the radical Islamist and war criminal party Jamaat-e-Islami is not an Islamic party at all.
They do not embrace true Islam, he said during a discussion at a community centre in Nazirhat Municipality, Fatikchhari, on Monday evening.
โIt is not a Sahih Islamic party. I am not the only one saying this; our elders have also said it. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Islam is Maududi’s Islam. And our Islam is the Islam of Medina. If you follow Maududi’s Islam, you will not have faith,โ Muhibullah said.
Being in control of the Yunus-led interim government, Jamaat has termed the remarks false, fabricated, and indecent.

Jamaat has been trying to ally with Islamist parties, including Hefazat and Islami Andolan Bangladesh, ahead of the next parliamentary elections.
Muhibullah also said that the damage done to Islam by Jamaat-e-Islami was not done by the Ahmadiyyas either. โJamaat-e-Islami is the worst group among all the wrong sects.โ
The meeting was chaired by Maulana Abu Maknun Mohammad Azizi, leader of Hefazat-e-Islam, and was presided over by Maulana Shah Salauddin Nanupuri, Pir of Nanupur Obaidiya Darbar.
The meeting was addressed by Maulana Habibur Rahman, Shaykh Hossain Muhammad Maulana Ilyas, Sheikh Hossain Mohammad Shahjahan Islamabadi, Maulana Junaid bin Jalal, Maulana Ayub Babunagri, Maulana Yahya, and Maulana Irshad Bhujpuri, among others.
Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Head of the party’s Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, issued a statement strongly condemning the “offensive and false remarks” by Muhibullah.
Zubair said: “This is undoubtedly a reckless and provocative comment. At a time when unity among Islamic parties in the country is more crucial than ever, such a statement is nothing but a deliberate attempt to undermine Islamic solidarity. These kinds of remarks are against Islamic values and political decorum and serve only to empower the conspirators against Islam.”
He further stated: “The claim that โJamaat-e-Islami wants to establish Maududism (Maududiโs Islam)โ is completely untrue. The true sources of Islam are the Qurโan and Sunnah. Jamaat-e-Islami follows that very Islam. There is no separate form of Islam called โMaududiโs Islam.โ Through such baseless and misleading comments, Maulana Muhibbullah Babunagari has attempted to confuse the nation, which is contrary to his responsible position.
“At a time when national unity among the countryโs Islamic parties is desperately needed, the nation does not expect such remarks from a senior and responsible religious scholar like Maulana Muhibbullah Babunagari. Therefore, we respectfully urge him to refrain from making such false, baseless, and hateful comments against Jamaat-e-Islami.”
