Professor Asma Sadia Runa, a government-appointed professor and department chair at Islamic University (IU), was killed in a knife attack by a university staff member on Wednesday (March 4) afternoon inside a departmental office on campus.
According to students, the department had arranged an iftar gathering that day. After finishing an exam, several students heard screams coming from the office of department chair Asma Sadia Runa. When they entered the room, they found her lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
At the same time, Mohammad Fazlu, an office assistant of the department and reportedly affiliated with Shibir, was seen attempting to slit his own throat with a sharp weapon. He was later rescued and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Preliminary reports suggest that Professor Asma Sadia Runa died from injuries caused by the staff memberโs knife attack. The incident has created shock and tension across the university campus.
Law enforcement agencies have begun investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to determine the exact motive behind the attack.
