Across the nation โ from every Union Parishad, City Corporation, and Municipality โ the illegitimate interim government, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is plotting to detain another 30,000 Awami League leaders and activists unlawfully, the party said on Saturday.
A recent directive from the Special Branch of the Bangladesh Police has ordered the collection of detailed information on Awami League leaders, including the latest presidents and general secretaries of ward, union, and district committees across the country, it stated.
Already, over 1,00,000 Awami League activists have been arrested, 32 of them died in prison due to torture and lack of medical care.

โSuch a massive political crackdown is unprecedented in the history of the world. Many of those who managed to secure bail have been re-arrested right at the prison gates โ a blatant violation of human rights and the rule of law.

โThe country is now gripped by a reign of terror against Awami League supporters. Unidentified corpses are appearing on roadsides. Even the sanctity of homes is no longer safe โ activists are being dragged out and murdered in cold blood.โ
In the past 10 months, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested nearly 3,000 Awami League leaders and members of its affiliated organisations for simply joining processions.
โA harrowing image has gone viral โ showing several detained Awami League workers, their bodies wrapped in bandages. They bore the unmistakable marks of torture, even without being taken into remand.
โThis is not just repression. It is a dark chapter of persecution, unfolding in the heart of Bangladesh,โ the party said.
