A delegation of Hefazat-e-Islam led by Mamunul Haqueโwho is the Secretary General of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish and Joint Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladeshโis currently on a visit to Afghanistan. They arrived in the country’s capital, Kabul, from Saudi Arabia on September 17.
During his trip, Mamunul exchanged views with the Chief Justice of the Emirate of Islamia (Taliban) government, some ministers, top Ulema-e-Karam and senior officials as homework for establishing Shariah in Bangladesh.
In a photo released on social media, Mamunul was seen holding a meeting with a senior Taliban cleric with a Kalema flag, which has been seen widely in Dhaka and elsewhere since August 5 last year.
According to sources, apart from Mamunul, the delegation includesโHefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Nayeb-e-Amir Maulana Abdul Hamid (Pir of Madhupur), Maulana Abdul Awal, Maulana Abdul Haque, Maulana Habibullah Mahmud Qasemi, Maulana Monir Hossain Qasemi and Maulana Mahbubur Rahman.

It is worth noting that the group went to Saudi Arabia on September 14 to perform the holy Umrah and reached Kabul via Dubai after the Umrah. Hefazat claims that this visit was at the state invitation of the Taliban government of Afghanistan.
Another source says that they earlier went to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and other countries to raise funds ahead of the upcoming national elections.
On the other hand, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry pro-Islamist Nasimul Ghani left for Pakistan on a nine-day official visit last night. He arrived at Islamabad International Airport on September 18 on a Thai Airways flight. Special Secretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Federal Government of Pakistan, Dawood Muhammad Barech, and the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan welcomed him.

The agenda of the visit includes discussions on Bangladesh-Pakistan cooperation in the fight against drugs and terrorism, training exchange between the police academies of the two countries, and coordination on the Rohingya issue. The Ministry of Interior also announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard.

In the past year, top jihadists, including Jasimuddin Rahmani, Mufti Harun Izhar and Asif Adnan, Islamist party leaders, including Mamunul, and social media influencers, like Mizanur Rahman Azhari and Ahmadullah, held a series of meetings in Dhaka, Islamabad and Riyadh over forging a greater group and establishing Shariah law.
The involvement of banned jihadist groups of Pakistan and Bangladesh in the ouster of the Awami League is now an open secret. Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders have openly stated that they planned the student-led movement and coordinated the implementation using the student leaders, including Nahid Islam, Mahfuj Alam, Abu Shadik Kayem, and SM Farhad.
Political observers raised eyebrows at the simultaneous visits of the Hefazat delegation and the visit of the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Interior to Pakistan, which are part of a secret mission by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies.

Who is Mamunul Haque?
A critic of secularism, LGBT rights, microcredit business and sculptures, Mamunul Haque, is a key ally of the Yunus regime. His party coordinated the police massacre and demolition of statues at many places across Bangladesh during the anti-government protests last year.
He is accused of creating division among the Tabligh Jamaat followers and instigating fierce clashes in December last year over holding the Bishwa Ijtema that killed four people in Tongi.
Even though he previously spoke against high interest charged by microcredit institutions, like Grameen Bank, Mamunul has been mum about it since Muhammad Yunus became the chief adviser last year.
Mamunul’s father, Allama Azizul Haque, was one of the founders who launched the Bangladesh chapter of Pakistan-based militant group Harkatul Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) in 1992. The HuJI is responsible for carrying out over a dozen deadly terrorist attacks, including the August 21 grenade blasts, with direct patronisation of the BNP-Jamaat government.
Mamunul is also closely linked to jihadist groups like Ansar al-Islam and JMB and is criticised for his hatred against the Hindus and India. In a recent interview, he asserted that Shariah law will be established in Bangladesh, where Hindus and other religious minorities will have to pay the Jizya tax.
Like war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee, Mamunul is also unpopular for adultery. On April 3, 2021, Mamunul was caught by locals with the wife of a friend at Room No. 501 at the Royal Resort in Narayanganj. Even though he identified her as his second wife, he later said that the issue of the marriage was kept secret and had been conducted as part of humanitarian responsibility.
Leaked audio recordings indicate that former Jamaat lawmaker Sayedee, a key follower of Allama Azizul Haque, engaged in extramarital affairs with multiple young women, including instances of phone sex. Sayedee came in contact with the women while performing waz mahfils on the Qurโan in various districts, including Chittagong.
