Child rape-murder rises manifold as perpetrators enjoy impunity, says Mahila Parishad

The number of cases of violence against women and children in the first six months of this year has almost reached the same number as last year. For example, the number of rape cases is almost the same as last year, the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has said.

On the other hand, the number of cases of sexual assault and harassment, child marriage and dowry-related violence is higher than last year.

These data were provided at the โ€œViolence of Women and Girls in Bangladesh: 2024 Surveyโ€ report release organised by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Tuesday.

Mahila Parishad President Fawzia Moslem said that the young people are being subjected to violence, and the age of the accused is also young. This is worrying. In addition, various studies have shown that the same criminals keep committing crimes again and again. Behind this, the issue of political and ruling party patronage of criminals is involved. Many people in power are also involved in crime.
