Sheikh Hasina announces 21-point demands for nation-building

Bangladesh Awami League President, five-time Prime Minister, and peopleโ€™s leader Sheikh Hasina has declared the partyโ€™s 21-point demands for overcoming Bangladeshโ€™s current socioeconomic-political crisis and restoring the democratic state system.

In a statement to the countrymen early Monday, the Awami League said Bangladesh is now passing through a terrible crisis.

โ€œThe Bengali nationโ€”victorious in the Great Liberation War under the leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahmanโ€”is today ravaged and imperilled by the monstrous rampage of extremist communal-terrorist forces and foreign agents. It is as if the land has become a wounded, blood-soaked battlefield.โ€

The statement said the whole country has been turned into a prison, an execution ground, and a valley of death. Everywhere there is destruction, the desperate cries of men and women to survive, and heart-wrenching lamentations.

Awami League vows to rebuild country, wonโ€™t take revenge

People think Yunus government is highly corrupt, says journalist Arshad Mahmud

โ€œThe beloved, fertile land of rivers and crops has been discoloured by the all-devouring demonic activities of the public enemyโ€”murderer, fascist, usurer, money-launderer, embezzler, looter, and corrupt, power-hungry Yunus.โ€

On August 5 last year, the elected government led by the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina was overthrown and forced into exile through a โ€œmeticulous designโ€ by public enemy, murderer, and fascist Yunus and his anti-national terrorist allies.

โ€œSince then, the people of the country have faced extreme oppression, brutality, and a reign of terror.

โ€œDemocracy is now in exile, human rights are trampled, media freedom is gone, and there is rampant violence against women, assaults, and rapes. Peopleโ€™s lives and property are unsafe; religious minorities continue to face persecution; and law and order have collapsed.

โ€œFrom the centre to the remotest cornersโ€”unbridled mob terror, looting, robbery, and extortion. Educational institutions are in chaos; justice and the rule of law have become a nightmare. The frenzy of extremist terrorists and communal groups has terrified the entire nation.

โ€œConspiracies are underway to hand over Bangladeshโ€™s land and resources to foreigners. Public enemy Yunus is betraying the entire nation and pushing beloved Bangladesh into a multinational war.

โ€œIn this extreme crisis, the entire nation must unite under the spirit of the Liberation War to remove the foreign-serving murderer-fascist Yunus and his puppet government. At any cost, brave Bengalis must restore and protect the Constitution written in the blood of โ€™71, independence, sovereignty, and democracy.โ€

The party urged all democratic, progressive, non-communal individuals and organizations to stand together to build a liberal, democratic, humane welfare state and strongly resist the anti-national activities of public enemy Yunus and his clique.

The statement said it is no secret that public enemy Yunus is a usurer, corrupt embezzler, money launderer, power-hungry representative of international extremist communal groups, and convicted by labour courts for embezzling workersโ€™ funds.

It said that since illegally seizing the Chief Adviserโ€™s post on August 8, 2024, he has gained unprecedented illegal benefits for himself and his โ€œGrameenโ€ entitiesโ€”massive tax waivers, licenses, land acquisitions, and foreign business dealsโ€”while looting the stock market and crippling the economy.

โ€œTo save the country and its people, resist and counter the destructive activities of Yunus and his clique.โ€

The August 5 uprising was aimed against Bangladeshโ€™s progress and youth achievements. โ€œToday, young people can see clearly the anti-national conspiracies of Yunus. Rise to protect independence, sovereignty, and the future. When youth rise, Bangladesh rises.

August 8: The day democracy bled

โ€œAt this critical juncture, let all pro-liberation, democratic, progressive, and non-communal forces unite to oust Yunus, end mob terror, and rebuild the democratic system under Sheikh Hasinaโ€™s leadership, upholding the spirit of the Liberation War and the ideals of Bangabandhu.โ€

Earlier, the Awami League said that when the party returns to power, it will rescue the nation from the darkness of illegal rule, not take revenge.

Highlighting the plans, the party said that the return of the Awami League means complete reconstruction of national institutions, reestablishment of the independence of the judiciary, ensuring the evaluation of merit in the administration, and restoration of the spirit of the Liberation War in education, culture, and economy.
