Headmaster suspended for refusing to take down Bangabandhuโ€™s portrait

The headmaster of a government primary school in Pirojpur and daughter of a freedom fighter, Shamima Yasmin, who refused to take down Father of the Nation Bangabandhu’s portrait, has been suspended by the Yunus regime.

Nesarabad Upazila Education Officer Khondaker Jasim Ahmed issued the order without citing any reason. Earlier, he had asked the teacher to take down the portrait.

According to the Constitution, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the Father of the Nation, and hanging his portrait is mandatory.

However, since last year, thousands of sculptures and establishments related to the 1971 Liberation War, Bangabandhu, museums, and cultural centres have been destroyed by jihadist party supporters, radical students, and Touhidi Janata, backed by Jamaat-e-Islami, which committed genocide in collaboration with the Pakistan Army.

The government has shown utter hatred and disregard for the Constitution without suspending it. Even Muhammad Yunus and his advisers took an oath under the Constitution.

Netizens have shown support to her because of her bravery against mobs and for upholding the spirit of the Liberation War and the rule of law. Many said Westโ€™s puppet Yunus, whose father was a Pakistan Muslim League leader and Razakar in 1971, is serving Jamaat.

On August 3, Shamima Yasmin, the headmaster of Sonarghope Ramesh Chandra Government Primary School in the upazila, refused to take down the portrait from her office in the face of demands by a mob.

โ€œI am the daughter of a freedom fighter. My father, Moinuddin Master, risked his life for the country and fought in the Liberation War. The great hero of that war was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. If it were not for Bangabandhu, independent Bangladesh would not have been created. So, I cannot remove this picture from my school,โ€ she told journalists.

The teacher’s husband, Md Hafizur Rahman, said: โ€œThe Assistant Education Officer called my wife and said that you have a letter. Come and take it to the office. But they did not tell us anything about the dismissal from the job.โ€

He further said: โ€œMy wife did not take down the picture because there was no government order to remove Bangabandhuโ€™s picture from the school. Later, the Assistant Education Officer asked her to take down the picture from the wall, so Bangabandhuโ€™s picture was taken down. Now, if my wife has a problem with this, I have no problem with it. There has been no situation where my wife lost her job.

โ€œIf she lost her job because the picture was not taken down, then it is understandable that the law and order in the country have deteriorated.โ€

Hafizur Rahman said: โ€œMy wife has completed 24 years of service. And she will retire in just a few months. In this situation, my wife is ready to voluntarily quit her job, if necessary.โ€
