Kuakata โ A serious electricity shortage is disrupting daily life and tourism in this coastal destination, as power supply remains far below the required level.
According to local sources, Kuakata needs around 55 to 60 megawatts of electricity. However, only about 17 megawatts are currently being supplied. This large gap has led to frequent power cuts, often occurring every 30 minutes.
Tourists staying in hotels are facing extreme discomfort due to heat and lack of electricity. Many are forced to remain inside their rooms without proper cooling. Local businesses are also suffering. Shopkeepers are using handheld fans to cope, but say their sales and normal activities have been badly affected.
One local vendor reported a sharp increase in the sale of hand fans, saying people are buying them out of necessity, not choice. This reflects the severity of the situation rather than any positive trend.
Experts warn that such a major power shortage could harm the local economy, especially because Kuakata depends heavily on tourism. If visitors continue to face poor conditions, they may choose not to return, which would affect hotels, shops, and workers in the area.
Despite the seriousness of the crisis, there has been little clear response from authorities about the cause or any concrete plan to solve the problem. Local residents are calling for urgent action to restore stable electricity.
Kuakata, famous for its scenic beach and unique views of both sunrise and sunset, is an important tourist destination in Bangladesh. A reliable power supply is essential to protect its reputation and support the local economy.
