Rising Insecurity Across the Country Raises Public Concern

Public concern over law and order in Bangladesh is growing as incidents of robbery, mugging, and violence continue to increase. People across the country are experiencing heightened fear, with many feeling unsafe not only on highways and streets but even inside their own homes.

According to available data, 576 cases of robbery and mugging were reported nationwide in the first three months of this yearโ€”an average of more than six incidents per day. Earlier, between August 2024 and December 2025, a total of 3,540 cases were recorded over 17 months, indicating a worsening trend in the security situation.

Authorities have identified several high-risk areas, particularly in the capital, Dhaka, where crime-prone zones and active criminal groups are a major concern. Reports suggest that many victims of such incidents are ending up in hospitals daily due to injuries from attacks.

Recent incidents highlight the severity of the situation. A doctor was stabbed in an upscale area of Dhaka, an auto-rickshaw driver was killed in Sirajganj and his vehicle stolen, and a businessman was attacked in Bagerhat. These cases suggest that people from all professions and social groups are at risk.

Experts emphasize the urgent need for effective measures to improve law and order. Strengthening patrols, enhancing intelligence operations, and ensuring swift justice are seen as critical steps. Coordinated efforts by authorities are also necessary to restore public confidence.

While the government has described the situation as โ€œchallenging,โ€ citizens are expecting clear and visible actions to ensure safety and security across the country.
