Allegation of Beating Death of Trader in Kalapara Over Facebook Post

A small trader named Md. Idris (45) has allegedly been beaten to death in Kalapara of Patuakhali over a Facebook post and comments on social media. The family of the victim has accused Jahirul Islam, General Secretary of Nilganj Union Jubo Dal and panel chairman, along with his associates.

On Tuesday morning (March 3), a tense situation arose when the victimโ€™s relatives brought the body to Kalapara Police Station. Idris was the son of the late Yusuf Khan from South Daulatpur village. He used to earn his livelihood by selling vegetables in Dhaka.

According to family members and local sources, during the recently held 13th National Parliamentary Election, Idris made a Facebook post accusing Jubo Dal leader Jahirul Islam of cattle theft and other alleged misconduct. Since then, tensions reportedly developed between Idris and Jahirulโ€™s supporters.

It is alleged that on Thursday evening (February 26), when Idris went to the local Pakhimara Bazaar, Jahirul Islam and his associates picked him up and took him to the office of the Union Jubo Dal. The family claims he was severely beaten there.

Later, relatives rescued him in critical condition and took him to Dhaka for treatment. After receiving treatment at Victoria Hospital in Narayanganj, he was taken home. However, around 10 pm on Monday (March 2), he suddenly became seriously ill. He died on the way to the hospital.

However, the accused Jubo Dal leader Jahirul Islam denied all allegations. He said the man had come to apologize to him and claimed that neither he nor his associates assaulted him. According to him, false accusations are being made against him.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalapara Police Station, Rabiul Islam, said the body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy. The victimโ€™s family is preparing to file a case. Police are taking the matter seriously and legal action will be taken against those responsible.
