The recent tension between General Waker-uz-Zaman and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is the manifestation of the pent-up anger of the army chief for three months.
In February, General Waker called on everyone to stop anarchy, terrorism, and internal conflicts so that the country’s independence and sovereignty remain intact. He hoped that elections would be held by December and the army would return to the barracks.
However, in contrast, Yunus’s goons called him an ally of the Awami League and India. They even threatened to attack the cantonment.
Then in April, General Waker said that peace and order were needed in the country. โViolence and hatred are not acceptable here. It is important for us to focus on respecting each other.โ
But in the meantime, keeping the army chief in the dark, Yunus appointed the high representative on the Rohingya issue, Khalilur Rahman alias Roger Rahman, as the national security advisor.
Analysts say Yunusโ aim was to use a section of the army to remove General Waker through a coup.
In addition, Yunus decided to use the army to provide a corridor in the name of sending humanitarian aid to the Rakhine province of Myanmar at the request of the Western-backed UN without consulting anyone.
In addition, the government also established relations with the rebel group Arakan Army, which has captured a major part of the province.
However, all political parties and conscious citizens, including the army chief, have protested this suicidal decision.
In addition, the Myanmar government and China have expressed strong objections to the corridor issue, and Bangladesh has been forced to return its ambassador.
Earlier, the Yunus gang put the armed forces and Bangladesh in danger by siding with Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistani tension and constantly inciting against India.
On May 20, Yunus held talks with the chiefs of the three forces, but could not convince them on the issues of the corridor, port and elections.
The next day, the army chief addressed the officers and soldiers at the Darbar and expressed his own opinions. He ordered all levels of the army to remain neutral and to discharge their electoral duties with honesty and integrity in the future.
He stressed that the national elections should be held by December.
Regarding the reforms, General Waker said that he had no idea what reforms were being carried out or how they were being carried out. He had not been consulted or discussed in this regard.
On the corridor issue, he made it clear that the Bangladesh Army would never be involved in any activity that was detrimental to sovereignty. He believed that such a decision should come from an elected government, and it should be made by following a legitimate process. Here, national interests should be maintained, and it should be done through political consensus.
General Waker also gave a strong message against the mob violence being carried out across the country by Yunus supporters. He said that the army was now taking a stricter stance on law and order.
Regarding the handing over of the responsibility of operating the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port to foreigners, he said that the opinions of local people and political leaders should be considered here. Such decisions should be taken through a political government.
As the army chief took a stand against Yunus on these sensitive issues, his terrorist forces once again took to the streets and declared a kind of war against the army along with extremist groups.
As part of an attempt to gain sympathy, Yunus on May 22 said that he would resign if barred from performing as per his wishes.
However, there too, demonic intelligence was used to provoke his thugs against the army and various political parties, including the BNP.
The next day, Yunus’s advisory council requested him not to resign. In addition, his press department said that the army chief’s statement was a conspiracy by the Awami League and India.
Since then, there has been extreme tension in the political arena and the cantonment.
