Various speculations have dominated the air as to which rival candidate masterminded the gun attack on pro-Yunus Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, a covert activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, on a Dhaka street on Friday, a day after the election schedule was declared.
The most shocking revelation came in the evening when some members of Hadiโs election campaign team said that two masked gunmen, who came on a motorbike near Bijoy Nagar culvert road, shot Hadi, who was on an auto-rickshaw.
The bullet hit under Hadiโs left ear. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital, where BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been kept under treatment amid SSF security.
The assailants took part in the campaign last week and on Friday and distributed leaflets. They were wearing masks all the time, one of the volunteers told Bangladesh Pratidin.

Photos of the masked assailants are now making the rounds on social media.
Earlier, a gun attack on a BNP election campaign left one person killed and two others, including the candidate, severely injured. In both cases, police and experts are blaming the Jamaat-Shibir cadres.
In Dhaka-8, Hadiโs top contenders are Shibir leader and DUCSU VP Abu Shadik Kayem and BNPโs Mirza Abbas. Among them, Hadi was a threat to Kayemโs win. Experts say senior BNP leader and businessman Mirza Abbas is a former mayor of Dhaka City Corporation and minister. He does not count Hadi as his rival candidate.
Doctors said that there had been severe bleeding from his head. Some fragments of a bullet were removed from his head, said Dr. Zahid Raihan, head of the neurosurgery department at DMCH.
Many politicians went to DMCH to console his family and friends. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and top leaders of different parties expressed concerns over the gun attack.
Students of Dhaka University have demanded the resignation of the home adviser, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, for his failure to improve law and order.
What is the political ideology of Hadi?
-Hadi, spokesperson of Shibir’s secret organisation Inqilab Moncho, rose to prominence through the mob terrorism that began in Dhaka on August 5, that is, through leading the killing, torture, looting, extortion, and arson.
For these acts, the camp followed the instructions of Pinaki-Ilias, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, and expatriate mob terrorists Pinaki Bhattacharya and Elias Hossain. His team was given financial rewards for committing mob attacks.
His targets were the homes and offices of Awami League leaders and activists, monuments of the Liberation War, and those with anti-Razakar mentality. His only meditation was to create resentment against the Awami League, the Liberation War, the minority community, and India through provocative and indecent language.
Despite causing huge destruction of lives and property at the state and individual levels, he has never been brought under the law in the last 16 months; rather, his party has been introduced as a pressure group rather than mob terrorists by the office of Chief Adviser Yunus.
Apart from Inqilab Manch, other secret organisations of Jamaat-Shibir are Gana Odhikar Parishad, AB Party, Ganotantrik Chhatra Shakti (defunct), Anti-discrimination Chhatra Andolon, National Citizen Committee (defunct), National Citizen Party (NCP), AAP Bangladesh, Trinamool NCP, etc.
