Dhaka University teacher Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan, aka Monami, came to light after the Jamaat-controlled interim government took office, after her appraisal of Md. Mohiuddin Khan, the general secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibirโs DU unit,

Recently, Monami’s partisan role during the controversial DUCSU election and her sharing of the dais with the former DU president of Shibir, Abu Shadik Kayem, sparked controversy among Awami League activists and social media users critical of Jamaat-Shibir.
Social media videos show that during the DUCSU election, Monami was shouting at the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal members and talking to Shibir leaders with a smiling face.
She was also seen taking photos with OHCHR chief Volker Tรผrk and UN resident coordinator Gwyn Lewis and attending USAID programmes on youth engagement.

Monami is an assistant professor at the Department of Public Administration and an assistant proctor of the university. Her brother, Shehbaz, is an active member of Shibir.
Admitted to Dhaka University in the freedom fighter quota, Monami passed BSS in 2012 and MSS in 2013. In 2020, she completed her MSc from the University of London.
Last week, some of her photos wearing bikinis and a doctored video interview went viral on social media. In protest, Shibir brought out processions on the campus demanding punishment for the perpetrators.
On Monday, Monami filed a case at Shahbagh police station against four people, including a journalist and a writer, under the Cyber Protection Ordinance for sharing her bikini photos on Facebook with fake descriptions.
According to the first information report (FIR), the four are journalist and activist Mujtoba Khondker, writer Mohiuddin Mohammad, Dhaka College student Nirab Hossain, and Ashfaq Hossain Evan.
She said that more names will be added after identifying the persons sharing her fake photos.

On the other hand, writer Mohiuddin Mohammad has been accused of sharing a photo card of his quote, referring to Monami as a โsource of sexual fantasy.โ
Monami accused Mujtoba Khondker of sharing an edited photo with the caption: โShe is a Dhaka University professor, wearing a bikini in the name of freedom of attire.โ
The social media hype prompted some activists to dig into Monamiโs academic career and her family. In response, the DU teacher posted on Facebook that she had joined Academia in 2018 and got the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship in 2019 to study in the UK.
After her return in 2020, Monami became a teacher at Jagannath University and later became a faculty member at Dhaka University through ASM Maksud Kamal, former vice-chancellor. ย
In the last five years, she has published 10 research papers, which drew only 15 citations.
High-profile family background

Monamiโs husband is an officer of the Bangladesh Army, shamed for not being fit. The couple has a son.
Her father-in-law, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Abdul Mubeen, became the army chief when the Awami League returned to power in 2009. He masterminded the ouster of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from her cantonment house.
Currently, Mubin is the director of United Group, which is why BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not get treatment at United Hospital.
Using his influence, the United Group has acquired land and a portion of the river to fill in 100 feet of illegal river and land development. United Hospital refused to give treatment to Begum Khaleda Zia due to his influence.

Monami’s father, Aminul Islam Milon, was a former additional secretary and secretary to former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu. He also has a share in SA TV.

Deep state agent?
Activist Rakibul Islam writes that Monami has been an active member of the deep state-funded group of academicians in Bangladesh, which helped overthrow the Awami League government last year.
