Thousands of people in five unions of Tarakanda Upazila in Mymensingh had been enduring immense suffering as the local roads remained unusable, with the government taking no initiative for months.
Due to the halt in the movement of rickshaws and engine-run easy bikes, the local farmers, vegetable growers, fish and fruit farmers, artisans, and school-going children faced many hassles. The situation worsened during the rain because of mud and water accumulation.

During emergencies, ambulances could not use the roads to carry patients, causing serious effects as the roads developed potholes.
From time and again, the local people, especially the rickshaw operators, complained to the administrative officials and public representatives, but to no avail. They got assurances from the authorities in the last year, but got no solution.
Finally, the woes of the people of Dholirkanda (Shashirkanda) and Galagaon unions eased recently, after Tofazzel Hossain Ronu, a renowned Tarakanda Upazila now doing business in South Korea, took the initiative to repair the Shashirkanda section of Tarakanda-Darjigati Road. At the same time, he also funded road rehabilitation work in the Char Faridpur area under Kamaria Union.

After the repair work, the people of the Dholirkanda, Darjigati, Chararkanda, and Char Faridpur areas expressed their gratitude to Tofazzel Hossain Ronu for funding it. He is the president of the South Korea Unit Awami League and President of Sheikh Hasina Sangram Parishad.
Also known as a philanthropist, Tofazzel Hossain Ronu provides financial support to the party workers and distressed people and extends a hand during any crisis.
Abdul Karim, a local farmer, said: “When it rains, water would accumulate on the road, and traffic would almost stop. Now, we are relieved to some extent.”
Shahidul Islam, an auto-rickshaw driver, said: โWe raised our demand for repairing the road many times. Finally, a respected expatriate from our area, Ronu Bhai, took a noble step to solve the issue. He has donated money for the repair work and monitored the progress.โ
They said that the affluent members of society should take similar steps, like a true patriot, Tofazzel Hossain Ronu, to ease the sufferings of the common people.
