Durga Puja: Sheikh Hasina Sangram Parishad condemns communal violence

Concerned over the rise in state-sponsored communal attacks against Hindus centring on the Durga Puja festivities, the Sheikh Hasina Sangram Parishad (SHSP) held demonstrations in the UK and South Korea on Sunday.

In South Korea, SHSP President Tofazzel Hossain Ronu presided over the human chain. In his speech, he criticised the supporters of the fascist regime for launching planned attacks on the Durga Puja pavilions across Bangladesh.

โ€œWe want a Bangladesh where people from all religions will coexist peacefully. We want to build the Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal) dreamed by Bangabandhu,โ€ he said, calling for unity to unseat the Yunus-led interim government.

In the UK, a team comprising SHSP General Secretary Prof. Dr. Arif Khan, Organising Secretary Murshid Uddin Ahmed and others visited a Durga Puja pavilion in Manor Park, London, to express solidarity with the Hindus.

In his speech, Dr. Arif Khan said that the SHSP was formed to reclaim the four fundamental principles of Bangladesh, including secularism, because the jihadist-backed fascist Yunus regime has been destroying the country since usurping power last year.

He called for a greater unity among the pro-liberation people to establish a peaceful and non-communal Bangladesh, following the footsteps of Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina.

Attacks on Durga Puja pavilions have been reported in at least 13 districts

Murshid Uddin Ahmed said that the people of Bangladesh have been divided by nationality and spirit, but earlier, people of all strata used to observe the festivities of all religions peacefully.

โ€œToday, demons are trying to destroy our flag, culture and communal harmony. We have to unite against these demons and uphold the Bengali culture,โ€ he added.
