Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that India will try to invade Bangladesh if the war criminal party goes to power. In that case, some 50 lakh youth will fight against India and implement the Ghazwa-e-Hind.
It will be an opportunity for Jamaat to erase the bad name that was โfalsely imposedโ in 1971. โThen we will get a chance to prove ourselves as true freedom fighters.
โA portion of them will go to guerrilla warfare. They will attack us with sticks as soon as they dismount. Are sticks permissible or not? I always say what is permissible. They will not be able to dismount from their horses. The remaining half will go to a wide area, and a war of independence will start in the entire region. The hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding the Ghazwa will be a grand plan to implement it,โ said Taher, a former MP who is visiting New York as part of the entourage of Muhammad Yunus, on Friday.
The event was organised by the Bangladesh American Association (COBA) in New York, USA.
Recently, Taher told BBC Bangla that Jamaat, an ideological offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, had planned the anti-government movement last year, and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, was at the forefront. He also stated that Jamaat-Shibir had prepared the student coordinators of the movement for several years.
The party says it will establish Islamic laws if voted to power, and its leaders and activists are seen organising mobs, under the banner of Touhidi Janata, across the country since last year.

In New York, Taher said: โThe Awami League will not fight against India but will cooperate. There is another big party [BNP]; they will also not cooperate, but they are not organised to fight. Who will be the organised force then? We will be. Then we will be genuine freedom fighters. Then an opportunity will be created to become genuine freedom fighters. No one will be able to swallow Bangladesh. There is nothing to fear.โ
He also acknowledged the contribution of expatriates during the anti-Awami League movement.
Regarding the economic use of Zakat, Taher said that if Zakat is collected officially, poverty alleviation in Bangladesh is possible within three to four years. Initiatives will be taken to bring Zakat from countries where a large amount of Zakat is collected, not only Bangladesh, but also the entire Muslim world, to Bangladesh. This will create a fund of thousands of crores of taka.
He said that if a young man is given Tk5 lakh from zakat and Tk10,000 worth of almond business carts are started with that money, then at least 10 people will be employed. With a capital of Tk20,000 on each cart, it is possible to earn Tk700-800 per day. As a result, at the end of the month, only one director will earn Tk90,000. In this way, massive employment can be created with zakat money.
Jamaat is collecting Jizya tax from Hindus in Bangladesh

Jamaat and hardline Islamists like the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish advocate for collecting Jizya tax from non-Muslims.
On July 25, 2025, local media reported that Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, publicly declared that Hindus and non-Muslims must pay this tax in the same way Muslims pay Zakat. Speaking at a public gathering, Dr. Rahman stated: โNon-Muslims living in Bangladesh should be made to pay the Jizya tax. Since Muslims pay Zakat โ a portion of their wealth donated for religious purposes โ if equal rights are truly desired, then Hindus should pay Jizya. This is what is correct as per Sharia law.โ
Jamaat-e-Islami opposed Bangladeshโs war of independence in 1971, siding with Pakistan and actively collaborating with the Pakistani military during the genocide of Bengali civilians. Today, the party enjoys continued patronage from Pakistanโs Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as well as various Islamist and jihadist organisations.
In the West, Jamaat maintains deep ties with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA). According to the Observer Research Foundation, these Jamaat-linked organisations have succeeded in securing funding from U.S. federal agencies โ particularly USAID, the Department of Agriculture, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Retired Brigadier General Abdullahil Amaan Azmi, the son of top war criminal and former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Ghulam Azam, is working to establish the Islamic Revolutionary Army (IRA) by destroying the Bangladesh Army and the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), sources say.

Azmi, who appeared in the scene on August 7 last year after eight years, is secretly preparing suicide squads with Ansar al-Islam jihadists to stage coordinated attacks in India as part of a blueprint made by the Pakistani elements. Intelligence sources say that Azmi is recruiting Rohingya refugees and stranded Pakistanis for training under the third mission.
Azmi is closely collaborating with some pro-Pakistani retired and sacked army officers to carry out the plans. In addition, the Pakistani ISI officials are regularly visiting Bangladesh, as it has already established an office in Dhakaโs Mohakhali DOHS area.
The former Awami League government banned Jamaat due to its covert terrorist activities as well as for masterminding the July-August riots to unseat the government, under the guise of a student-led uprising against the quota system in public service.
