Noted academic and political observer Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah has said that the ongoing chaos warrants a state of emergency.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin is the sole authority to declare an emergency and replace the Yunus-led Advisory Council with a new team, he said at a talk-show on Friday.
President Shahabuddin does not need to seek anyoneโs reference, said Prof Kalimullah, also a lieutenant colonel.

HRWโs stance against Yunusโ fascism echoes public concern
โThe president is the supreme commander of the Armed Forces. So, if he declares an emergency, the Bangladesh Army is legally bound to follow the orders.
โUnder the new arrangement, the army will work without the influence of Yunus and his cohorts.โ
He mentioned that Yunus and his advisers had violated the Constitution by taking the oath on August 8, as they forged the reference of the Supreme Courtโs full bench led by the Chief Justice.
The interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has lost acceptance and popularity, he said, adding that holding an election without the Awami League and other parties will make it questionable, like the previous instances.

Also the chairman of Jatiya Nirbachon Parjabekkhon Parishad (Janipop), Prof Kalimullah observed that Awami League President and five-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may return to the country from India when Yunus is removed, as she is concerned over the current lawlessness.
She may stay in Gopalganj and attend court hearings in Dhaka and return home the same day, thanks to the Padma Bridge.
The new government will ensure that Sheikh Hasina is not arrested, and the international quarter will be the guarantor, Dr Kalimullah said.
