Awami League remembers police members brutally killed by July terrorists

The Bangladesh Awami League has reiterated its demand for the exemplary punishment of the terrorists and militants linked to the systematic murder of police members in July-August last year.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party also condemned the unconstitutional government order indemnifying the perpetrators to stop the investigation into the murders.

โ€œThe anti-liberation forces targeted the vigilant police force of the state to implement the meticulous design of the fundamentalist forces to overthrow a democratically elected government to illegally seize state power.

โ€œThe first victims of this target were ASI Muktadir and Nayek Gias Uddin.โ€

From July 16, 2024, Jamaat-Shibir militants disguised as students attacked the Jatrabari police station to kill the police.

โ€œThe police took a counter-position and resisted. But the hyena gang started looking for police members in Rayerbagh and Shonir Akhra areas.โ€

They started shouting slogans like โ€œCatch the policemen, kill them one by one.โ€

On July 19, two policemen were found: ASI Muktadir, who was working in the Tourist Police, and the other was Nayek Gias Uddin, who was working in the Protection Department, DMP.

Both of them were stopped by the conspirators near the Rayerbagh foot over bridge on their way to and from their workplaces. As soon as the mob checked their mobile phones and got their identities, they brutally beat them to death.

โ€œThe militant gang did not stop at just killing them. They stripped the two bodies and hung them upside down on the Rayerbagh foot over bridge,โ€ the statement said.

โ€œWhat a brutal murder! What a gruesome scene of hanging bodies! What was their crime? The countrymen do not know whether such a brutal murder of law enforcement officers has ever happened in any country in the history of the world. Even if the rotting corpses of the hanging bodies start to rot, the hearts of the Jamaat militants do not melt.โ€

On July 20, the family members requested the mobs to hand over their bodies, but they refused. After hanging for about 36 hours, the half-mutilated bodies were recovered by the police.

โ€œThey had to meet a brutal death that day, having been engaged in the security of the state all their lives.

โ€œThe democratically elected government was overthrown by killing over 3,000 members of the loyal police force, causing a severe deterioration in law and order.

โ€œDr. Yunus, a follower of fundamentalism, illegally seized power. Indemnity was issued to stop the trial of the police killings, which were brutally defeated by the violent forces of freedom,โ€ the Awami League said.
