Severed leg of Chhatra League activist Shakil an icon of Yunusโ€™ fascism

โ€œThey severed a leg of my son Shakil over a minor argument. The police and the army are not cooperating with us. Despite our repeated requests, they have not been able to arrest a single person. Meanwhile, a local group is threatening us to withdraw the case. We are now in a state of panic. I want justice for the injustice done to my son.โ€

This is how Md Amir Hossain described his ordeals while visiting various government offices seeking justice.

As no one has been arrested in this sensational case yet, there have been mixed reactions among the public. Videos of the father visiting various offices with the amputated leg are viral on social media.

On June 15, some criminals linked to the BNPโ€™s student wing, Chhatra Dal, attacked Md Shakil Mia, 16, with sharp weapons at Nakla in Sherpur.

Severely injured Shakil was first taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and then to Dhakaโ€™s Pongu Hospital, where the doctors had to amputate his left leg.

Hailing from Baroikandi Dakkhinpara of Gonopoddi Union, Amir Hossain filed a case with the Nakla police station on June 16.

The accused include Md Israfil, Md Hasibul, Md Antim, Md Lalu Badsha, Md Dulal Mia and four unnamed others.

Attacks on the members of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations have been commonplace since the July anarchy last year, with the party alleging the murder of several hundred leaders and activists.

The perpetrators have also attacked and looted their houses and business establishments with impunity.

After capturing power in August, the Yunus-led interim government made a world record by filing over 80,000 cases against the Awami League leaders and activists, arrested more than 3,60,000 people, and imprisoned at least 1,37,000 without trial.

In addition to the flawed legal measures, government supporters have killed several hundred leaders and activists of the Awami League, Chhatra League, and its other affiliated organisations in targeted attacks. In addition to these fatalities, mobs claimed the lives of another 172 people.
