Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has reached an unprecedented level in energy diplomacy, transforming regional cooperation into strategic strength and establishing an effective model of trilateral energy diplomacy that secures the countryโs long-term energy stability.
Through electricity imports from India, Bhutan, and Nepal, a multidimensional energy security framework has been created. This not only addresses domestic power shortages but also strengthens Bangladeshโs position as a key partner in regional electricity trade.
Additionally, the IndiaโBangladesh Friendship Oil Pipeline has created a strategic security corridor for northern Bangladesh. Direct supply through the pipeline has reduced transportation costs, saved time, and stabilized the energy supply system. In the event of global crises or wartime disruptions that block maritime fuel imports, the pipeline ensures that energy supply to 16 districts in northern Bangladesh is largely uninterrupted.
Experts say th demonstrates that energy diplomacy is not just an economic initiative but a matter of national security. Sheikh Hasinaโs visionary energy policies provide Bangladesh with a strong foundation in three key areasโlong-term stability, cost-effective energy access, and a strategic regional position. With consistent and effective leadership, the benefits of these achievements are expected to sustain the country for decades to come.
