Seven Former Leaders of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Detained Over Bus Arson Allegation

Detectives from the district Detective Branch (DB) have detained seven former leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Jhenaidah on allegations of setting a bus on fire. They were detained during raids conducted in different areas of the town around 2:00 am on Sunday night (March 8).

Among those detained are former convener of the Jhenaidah district unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Saidur Rahman, member secretary Ashikur Rahman Jibon, senior joint convener Toufiq Hasan, joint convener Antar Hossain Riju, convener of โ€œThe Red Julyโ€ Abu Hasnat Tanaim, and former joint convener of the district committee Humayun Kabir. The identity of another detainee could not be immediately confirmed.

Police sources said the detainees are accused of being involved in a recent bus arson incident. Based on these allegations, a special operation was carried out at night leading to their detention. They are currently being questioned and legal proceedings against them are underway.

A district police official, who requested anonymity, confirmed the matter and said they were detained over allegations of involvement in the incident. Further legal action will be taken following the investigation.

The incident has created a stir in the area.
