Anger Grows Over Behavior of RU RAKSU GS Ammar; Probe Reports Yet to Be Published

Teachers and students at Rajshahi University have expressed growing frustration over the activities and behavior of Salahuddin Ammar, the General Secretary of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU). Allegations have emerged that his actions are becoming increasingly reckless amid what many describe as administrative silence.

Recently, a video showing a heated argument between Ammar and Mehedi Maruf, president of the RU unit of the Studentsโ€™ Rights Council, spread widely on social media. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a Facebook post related to RAKSUโ€™s activities. Witnesses said Ammar became visibly agitated during the exchange and allegedly threatened the opposing group.

Mehedi Maruf alleged that Ammar used offensive language in the comment section of his Facebook post criticizing RAKSUโ€™s activities. When asked about the remark, Ammar allegedly behaved in an inappropriate manner. Maruf said they plan to raise the issue with the university administration.

Denying the allegations, Ammar claimed that certain groups are exaggerating the matter to attract media attention and create unrest on campus. He said he has always worked to ensure the rights of general students.

Some teachers and students also alleged that Ammarโ€™s use of offensive language and provocative posts on social media is harming the campus environment. Many, they say, are reluctant to speak out due to fear of online harassment.

University sources said the administration has formed two investigation committees over several incidents involving Ammar. However, the reports have not yet been published. The universityโ€™s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Farid Uddin Khan, said the allegations are being reviewed and action will be taken once the investigation reports are submitted.

Many teachers and students believe that if the investigations are not concluded quickly, it could further damage the reputation of the university.
