In a virtual address, Sheikh Hasina placed several political demands before the BNP leadership and its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, highlighting the current political situation, elections, and democratic governance in the country.
During the speech, Sheikh Hasina said that a democratic environment must be maintained in the country and that the politics of violence and revenge should come to an end. She called on the BNP government to stop repression against opposition voices and political activities and to ensure a tolerant political atmosphere.
She further stated that ensuring the peopleโs voting rights and creating conditions for a free, fair, and credible election is the responsibility of the government. She also emphasized the importance of neutrality in the election system and administration to keep the electoral process free from controversy.
Addressing Tarique Rahman, Sheikh Hasina said that responsible politics is necessary for the sake of the country. She urged him to refrain from personal attacks and provocative statements.
In her speech, she also placed several demands, including:
*Withdrawal of what she described as politically motivated cases against leaders and activists
*Ensuring freedom of expression
*Strengthening democratic institutions
*Guaranteeing public safety and the rule of law
The former prime minister stressed that political problems should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding. She said the priority should be the countryโs development and the welfare of its people, rather than political instability.
At the end of her speech, Sheikh Hasina called on the people to continue peaceful and democratic movements and urged political parties to act responsibly in the greater interest of the nation.
