DNC Inspector Shot with Looted Police Pistol in Capital.

Attack during anti-drug drive in Sayedabad; victim undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical.

A Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) inspector was shot during an anti-drug operation in the Sayedabad area of the capital. He was seriously injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred around noon on Monday (March 2) near the Sayedabad rail gate. The injured officer has been identified as Siddiqur Rahman, an inspector working under the Khilgaon Circle of DNCโ€™s Dhaka Metro South region.

According to DNC sources, a joint anti-narcotics operation involving seven circles of the southern zone had been underway in the Sayedabad rail gate area and its surroundings since Monday morning. Around noon, Inspector Siddiqur Rahman and his team spotted three suspicious individuals. One of them was detained while the other two attempted to flee.

While searching the detained suspect, he suddenly fired four rounds from a pistol he was carrying. One of the bullets pierced through the lower part of Inspector Siddiqur Rahmanโ€™s left leg, just below the knee. He collapsed on the spot after being shot.

His colleagues quickly rescued him and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Upon receiving the news, DNC Additional Director AKM Shawkat Islam and other senior officials went to the hospital and oversaw the injured officerโ€™s treatment.

Four bullet shells were recovered from the scene. According to relevant sources, the shells suggest that the weapon used was a pistol commonly used by police. It is primarily suspected that the firearm might be one of the pistols looted from a police station on August 5.

Sources also said that although the government recently approved the use of firearms for DNC members, the decision has not yet been fully implemented. Despite completing the required training, firearms have not yet been supplied to the members. As a result, they are unable to use firearms for self-defense during operations.

DNC officials said that anti-drug drives will continue in the future.
