Some Awami League activists have triumphantly reopened the Muksudpur Upazila office in Gopalganj, hoisting the national and party flags after 19 long months of forced closure and relentless persecution in a stirring display of unyielding bravery and unwavering loyalty.
This fearless act stands as a testament to the party’s indomitable spirit, inspiring hope amid a climate of intimidation and bans.
On Sunday morning, at the Chourongi area in Upazila Sadar, a group of valiant leaders and supporters, led by the heroic Muksudpur Upazila Chhatra League President Riaz Ahmed Raj and General Secretary Tarikul Islam, gathered around 6am to raise the flags.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as electrifying, with the activists chanting powerful slogans like “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu” and “Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile”โechoes of resilience that cut through the silence imposed on them since the political upheaval of August 5, 2024.

Photos of this courageous moment quickly went viral on social media, spreading like wildfire and reigniting passion among Awami League ranks nationwide. Despite facing arrests, mob attacks, and a temporary ban on party activities under the amended anti-terrorism law in May 2025โenacted amid pressure from Jamaat-e-Islami and Yunus’s National Citizen Party (NCP)โthese brave souls refused to be silenced.
Their action in Muksudpur follows a similar bold move at the Gopalganj district Awami League office, where four young activists hoisted the national flag in a 45-second viral video, chanting the same uplifting slogans at the shuttered Bankpara site.
Local police, including Muksudpur Thana OC Abdullah Al Mamun and Gopalganj Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Muhammad Sarwar Hossain, acknowledged the incidents and stated they are investigating. Yet, in the face of such scrutiny, the activists’ boldness only amplifies their commitment to democracy and justice.

Political observer and senior journalist Probir Kumar Sarker said that the Awami League’s fearless resurgence serves as a beacon of hope, reminding Bangladesh of the party’s historic role in fighting for freedom and progress. As Sheikh Hasina’s vision endures through these brave hearts, the nation watches with admiration, yearning for a brighter future.
This wave of defiance, seen in nearly 26 districts and upazilas since the electionsโincluding flash protests in Dhaka and beyondโhighlights the extraordinary courage of Awami League members, who do not choose violent means to grab power.
While Jamaat and NCP leaders decry these efforts as a supposed revival under the BNP government, the reality is a story of heroic resistance against suppression, he said.
Awami League’s grassroots warriors continue to risk everything for their ideals, proving that true patriotism cannot be extinguished.
