How USAID funded extremism by using radical students in Bangladesh

By ABM Sirajul Hossain Although we sarcastically say that Prothom Alo, The Daily Star, and certain NGOs have been working for the past 25 yearsโ€”on behalf of George Soros and the American deep stateโ€”to prepare a youth-led “colour revolution” or “velvet revolution,” they have been severely deceived by covert fundamentalist groups and Islamist terrorist youth elements lurking in the shadows. While the sarcasm holds some truth, it is only partial.

The full truth is that the main deception did not come from the students themselves. The primary betrayal came from the military and intelligence wings of America’s deep state, which used these fundamentalist students as tools. They never truly wanted a colour or velvet revolution. Instead, they used the facade of such a revolutionโ€”along with NGOs and funding channelsโ€”to advance their real agenda.

Just as America’s deep state military and intelligence wings have played a dual game in Afghanistan and Pakistanโ€”creating terrorists while simultaneously fighting themโ€”they are now playing the same game in Bangladesh. Their goal is to destabilise the country and turn its eastern flank in South Asia into another Islamist militant hub on India’s and China’s doorstep.

To establish this hub, they have deployed the ISI (Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence). Logistics are being arranged for this purpose, including resumed ship and direct flight connections with Pakistan, unrestricted internet access via Starlink, and more. Alongside this, steps have already been taken to neutralise the police force, eliminate opposition politics, and install Jamaat-e-Islami members in government offices. Remember, it was a single police officer who uncovered the infamous 10-truck arms consignment.

On February 13, 2025, the US House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing to examine the Trump administration’s decision to suspend funding for USAID. Democrats argued that dismantling the agency was illegal and harmful to US interests, while Republicans criticised USAID for wasting taxpayer dollars on “woke” initiatives. Witnesses included former USAID officials from the George W. Bush administration and the first Trump administration. During that hearing, US Republican Representative Scott Perry laid everything bare.

Scott Gordon Perry is an American politician and retired Army National Guard Brigadier General who has served as the US Representative for Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district since 2013.

Perry explained how the United States has created Islamic terrorism around the world and continues to do soโ€”even after withdrawing from Afghanistanโ€”by channelling funds through USAID to terrorists. Although America failed to win the Afghan war and withdrew, its strategy of using Islamic terrorism in Afghanistan and Pakistan against India has not ended; it remains active. We, in turn, ousted a stable and independent government in our country to open a new eastern front for this strategy. In his words, USAID had opened a military front in Bangladesh.
