Awami League protests mob attacks on partyโ€™s processions

Protesting the joint attacks and mob violence by police and political party cadres on the Awami Leagueโ€™s peaceful procession and the indiscriminate arrests of its leaders and activists, the party on Tuesday said that the state-sponsored attacks are aimed at fulfilling political vendettas only to create chaos in the country and endanger the lives and property of its citizens for their own political gain.

โ€œThe people of Bangladesh are witnessing with deep concern that leaders and activists of the Awami League continue to fight for the restoration of democracy and peopleโ€™s rights. The Bangladesh Awami League stands as a fortress of resistance in the struggle for justice against injustice and oppression. Guided by the spirit of public welfare, it represents the values of humanity and compassion.

โ€œHowever, for waging this just struggle to re-establish democracy and safeguard peopleโ€™s rights, Awami League members are being subjected to brutal and inhumane repression. Today, in continuation of this persecution, a planned wave of mob violence was unleashed against Awami League leaders and activists participating in a peaceful procession in the capital.

โ€œMany were severely injured in barbaric attacks; victims were even obstructed from receiving medical treatment. Some have reportedly been abducted or forcibly disappeared, with ransom demands being made for their release.

โ€œWhile cadres of various political parties, including the BNP, are carrying out mob attacks in collusion with the police, law enforcement is simultaneously creating an atmosphere of fear by indiscriminately arresting injured Awami League activists and destroying the environment necessary for fair political practice.โ€

โ€œAt the same time, we urge the people of the country to remain vigilant against conspiratorial activities aimed at destroying the achievements of national development under the leadership of Bangabandhuโ€™s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, and depriving the citizens of its benefits,โ€ the Awami League said.
