Brother of Felani, who was killed by BSF in 2011, gets a job in BGB

The younger brother of Felani Khatun, a 15-year-old girl who was killed in a BSF firing while crossing the barbwire with her father and uncle on January 7, 2011, has now joined the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

He participated in the recruitment examination organised by the Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) on February 23. After passing the examination, the battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, officially handed over the appointment letter to him on September 18.

The heartbreaking murder of Felani, who was just 15 years old, caused a huge stir in the country and abroad. Since then, her family has been fighting for justice. However, this new achievement has brought a ray of hope into their lives as the Jamaat-controlled Yunus regime is anti-India, and the pro-Yunus militant groups have been campaigning for waging jihad in India.

After receiving the letter of appointment, Felani’s brother Arfan Hossain said: “It was my parents’ dream to work for the country. The people’s protest after Felani’s murder inspired me to join the BGB. Today, that dream has come true. I thank the BGB for giving me the opportunity to serve the country.โ€

Felaniโ€™s father Nur Islam said: โ€œOn the way back from India, the BSF shot my minor daughter like a bird and hung her on a barbed wire fence. I still canโ€™t forget that scene. However, the countrymen and the BGB were always by our side. They also helped us by opening shops. Today, my son got a job in the BGB on his own merit; this is the biggest achievement of my life.โ€

Lalmonirhat Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam said: โ€œBGB is always by Felaniโ€™s family. Her younger brother will pass the recruitment exam and join the training centre on September 19. We hope that he will become a skilled member and devote himself to serving the country.โ€

He also said that the BGB is always vigilant to ensure that a brutal incident like the killing of Felani never happens again on the border.

Felani used to work as a house helper in Delhi. On that fateful day, she was going to her village home in Kurigram with her father and uncle for marriage. Felaniโ€™s father also has a house in Assam.

In the face of mounting protests, the BSF constituted a special court to hold the trial of the lone accused, Amiya Ghosh. But he got an acquittal twice since he was not found guilty because of “inconclusive and insufficient” evidence against him.
