Awami League protests mob attack, arrest of freedom fighters, pro-liberation activists

The Bangladesh Awami League has condemned the arrest of freedom fighters, academics and pro-liberation activists through mob terrorism at a roundtable discussion on the Great Liberation War and the Constitution on Thursday.

โ€œSince the illegal usurpation of state power by the murderous fascist Yunus clique, the people of the country have witnessed their ongoing attempts to dishonour, humiliate, and insult the Great Liberation War and our freedom fighters. It seems their primary target has always been the Liberation War itself,โ€ the party said in a statement on Friday.

โ€œThe independence of Bangladesh was achieved through the united struggle and collective effort of the Bengali nation after a thousand years of aspiration. The spirit of the Liberation War is something this illegal occupying force fears. That is why, by principle, they have positioned themselves against the ideals and consciousness of our Liberation War.

ZI Khan Panna: Itโ€™s high time we unite against anti-liberation forces

โ€œBy nourishing anti-national and anti-liberation forces, they are betraying our history and the sacred blood debt of millions of martyrs. It is as if they suppress the righteous while nurturing the wicked.โ€

The arrestees include eminent freedom fighter Abdul Latif Siddique, Dhaka University law professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon, journalist Monjurul Alam Panna, ATM Anisur Rahman Bulbul, and other noted freedom fighters and individuals inspired by the Liberation War spirit.

All freedom fighters, regardless of political affiliation, were invited. It was not a party program. Yet, those who came to participate in and listen to the discussion became victims of mob terrorism.

โ€œFrom teachers to journalistsโ€”no profession, no class of people is spared from this violence. The Liberation War was the greatest event of our national life. Its spirit continues to inspire us in building a society based on equality and justice. Those who risked their lives and freed this nation in that historic struggle are now being terrorised through the use of state machinery, their voices forcibly silenced.โ€

Terming it a strange and outrageous reality and audacity, the party said that in a Bangladesh earned through the supreme sacrifice of three million martyrs and countless freedom fighters, the evil forcesโ€”born of the blood-seed of anti-liberation elementsโ€”are now showing arrogance, backed directly by the murderous fascist Yunus clique. This illegal occupying group is desecrating the great sacrifice of the entire nation during the Liberation War.

โ€œThe Bengali nation will not accept the dishonour and humiliation of those greatest sons whose courage, heroism, and sacrifice gave us our independence. One day, Bangladesh will respond to this injusticeโ€”Inshallah,โ€ the statement added.
