Police officer Md Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Ramna Division, brutally tortured an engineering student in front of the InterContinental Hotel on Wednesday, according to photos and videos published in the media and on Facebook.
The images showed DC Masud clamping a studentโs mouth while a dozen other police members surrounded the place, and a police truck was spraying water cannon. On Thursday, the Yunus regime’s police claimed that someone deliberately created the images with the intention of spreading unnecessary confusion among the public.

โA close examination of the image reveals that it was entirely generated using AI technology and has no basis in reality,” said the DMP News website.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, DMP deputy commissioner, told The Daily Star that the police have verified the photos and found that no such incident took place.
Asked about photojournalists from different outlets having taken the picture, he said: “That is their issue. No such incident has taken place.”

“Along with other photographers, I was standing near the road divider between Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Centre and the InterContinental Hotel,” The Daily Star photographer Orchid Chakma said.

“Around 2:15pm yesterday, a group of police coming from Minto Road towards the InterContinental Hotel pushed the students towards Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue. It was at that moment that one of the protesters was restrained by the police. Several photographers captured the moment. Afterwards, water cannons were used to disperse the crowd,” he added.
Alongside Orchid Ckakma, several other photojournalists were present at the scene โ one from the New Age, Bangladesh Pratidin’s Joyeeta Roy, The Business Standardโs Rajib Dhar, and the Daily Manab Zamin’s Md Abusufian Jewel.
They all took photos of the incident.
When TBS contacted the Buet student seen in the photo, identified as Rafid Khan, he said: “The widely discussed photo is not AI-generated. The incident actually happened to me.”

Speaking about the officer pressing his mouth, Rafid said: “It happened just when I was pushed from behind and fell to the ground.”
A video, taken from another angle and shared on Facebook by ATN Bangla News on Wednesday, also showed the seconds before the photo was taken. It showed how Rafid was beaten by multiple baton-wielding police officers on the footpath and on the road. As he tried to fight back, the scuffle ensued, and officers were seen beating and attempting to detain him, leading to the scene that was captured by several photographers.
