Sixteen-year-old Majid Hossain of Khagrachhari is at number 38 in the gazette of July martyrs announced by the interim government.
Due to poverty, Majid took a job as a truck helper in Chittagong in May 2024. On July 19, while returning with an empty truck after unloading goods, he was trapped in a barricade of anti-government protesters as soon as he crossed the Hajiganj railway line.
At that time, the protesters set the truck on fire with a very powerful flammable substance. The truck was instantly destroyed in the fire, and the teenager sustained severe burn injuries inside the truck.

The locals rescued Majid and first admitted him to Hajiganj Hospital. After being sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in a critical condition on July 20, Majid died there on July 25.

July Conspiracy: Gazetted lists contain many fake martyrs, injured fighters
Hailing from Rasulpur of remote Patachhara Union of Ramgarh, Majid was buried in the village graveyard on July 26. His sick father and mother were distraught over the death of Majid.
However, after his death, the family got grants from the government and bought a piece of land to build a house.
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandaker visited Majidโs ancestral home in January and promised all possible assistance to the family. He provided cash assistance to Majidโs parents and promised to take initiatives to improve the road leading to Majid’s house and preserve his grave.
In March, the DC visited Majidโs house again and handed over a savings certificate worth Tk10 lakh to his family. He also gave Eid gifts to his mother and brother on behalf of the government. Moreover, Eid gifts were also given by the July Foundation.
Majid was also remembered on August 5, on the first anniversary of the fall of the government, when DC Iftekharul Islam placed a wreath at his grave and attended prayers for his departed soul.

While some of the martyrs are still alive, though murder cases have been filed, others died in accidents or while looting valuables from houses, business establishments and museums on August 5 or afterwards.
