Businessman stabbed dead for refusing to pay money to extortionists

Criminals stabbed Shah Faizur Rahman Rubel, a hardware businessman in Moulvibazar city, to death on Thursday.

He was the owner of F Rahman Trading and Sodaipati Market on Shamshernagar Road.

Rubel came under attack at his business establishment by some BNP-backed criminals for refusing to pay money as per their demand.

Local CNG auto-rickshaw drivers rescued him and took him to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.

The doctor on duty provided him with primary treatment and referred him to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries around 9:30pm on Thursday.

Rubel hails from Gobindapur village of Kadipur Union of Kulaura Upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Moulvibazar model police station Gazi Mahbubur Rahman said that they had no idea about the reason for the murder.

Local businessmen protested the murder and sought security. They also demanded the quick arrest of the killers and their exemplary punishment.
