Journalist Md Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a staff reporter for the daily Protidiner Kagoj, went live on Facebook on Thursday afternoon about extortion from sidewalks and shops in the Chandana Chowrasta area in Gazipur.
Around 6pm, he shared a photo next to the wall of Joydebpur Rail Gate, saying: โThose who travel to Joydebpur, this road is familiar to you. Such a beautiful road is being destroyed due to the lack of repair of the drain. People’s wealth is being destroyed due to the negligence of the authorities.โ
After two hours, he shared a video of the Chowrasta area criticising the lack of traffic rule enforcement.

Within 30 minutes, five to six criminals wielding cleavers and other sharp weapons attacked him in the Chandana Chowrasta area. At that time, he ran and took shelter in a tea shop in Eidgaon Market.

Later, the miscreants entered the tea shop and started hacking him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
People did not resist the attackers but recorded videos of their brutality and later shared them on Facebook.
The political identity of the attackers could not be known immediately.
Local businessman Khairul Islam said: โI was sitting in the shop. Suddenly, Tuhin ran into my shop. Later, three men entered my shop and hacked him to death. At that time, two people were standing outside the shop with cleavers.
โWhen I tried to stop them, they also threatened to hack me to death. Many people watched at that time, but no one came to save him.โ

Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Md Rabiul Hasan said that they had received some video footage of the incident.
โWe have also received some clues. We have started a drive to arrest those involved in this incident. It is very sad to see a journalist hacked to death like this.โ
Gazipur Basan police station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Khan said that they recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College.
