SM Kamal, Ronu slam Yunus over Milestone crash cover-up, orange juice party

While the whole country was observing mourning for the tragic deaths of small children, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College from the fighter jet crash, the chief adviser was busy concealing dead bodies, suppressing the media, and torturing and intimidating justice seekers for seeking actual information.

A day later, Muhammad Yunus sat in a meeting with top politicians and some advisers to protect his reputation. They ended the meeting having orange juice, with photos and videos of Yunus in a cheerful mood as they agreed to support each other in times of crisis, when 31 were reported dead and another 165 were undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

The day was a national mourning day, announced by the interim government, when Yunus unleashed the army and the police on the demonstrators, leaving at least 75 injured.

Was the tragedy at Milestone School foreseen?

Yunus made another blunder by seeking public donations for the victims in a Facebook post, only to remove it soon after due to condemnations by the netizens.

The Bangladesh Awami League, civil society leaders, journalists and activists have censured Yunus and his gang for poor management of the crisis, attempts to conceal bodies, and his insensitivity towards the victims.

In Facebook posts and YouTube discussions, the government faced severe criticism on Wednesday as it further complicated the situation by contradicting the Bangladesh Armyโ€™s figures of casualties, drawing more condemnation.

SM Kamal Hossain

At a virtual discussion on Wednesday night, Awami League Organising Secretary SM Kamal Hossain said the tragic incident did not touch Yunus. His mismanagement has reminded the nation of Sheikh Hasina.

โ€œShe was the best crisis manager. She used to take measures according to the crisis, including Covid-19, flood, and drought,โ€ he said.

The aftermath of the devastating plane crash deserved prompt actions by the authorities to arrange ambulances and other support from all the specialised institutions. Instead, advisers and politicians visited the injured at hospitals with processions, creating chaos and crowds and hampering medical care.

Neither Yunus nor those politicians had any obligations to the people. The massive protests and the brutal torture of demonstrators exposed the governmentโ€™s lack of public support, said SM Kamal, who is a former lawmaker from the Khulna-3 constituency.

He also blamed Yunus for making the Bangladesh Army controversial in the eyes of the people through a conspiracy so that the force cannot stand firm on the interest of the country.

The Awami League leader said the peopleโ€™s fate has not been changed since last July. There is no consideration of merit in employment. Only Yunus and his gang are gaining personally.

Tofazzel Hossain Ronu

Expatriate businessman and South Korea Awami League President Tofazzel Hossain Ronu also spoke at the discussion. Md Salahuddin, the general secretary of Sheikh Hasina Sangram Parishad, moderated the talk show.

Ronu, also president of Sheikh Hasina Sangram Parishad, vehemently criticised Yunus for the mismanagement after the plane crash.

He wondered why the government was spending public funds on the security of Yunusโ€™ National Citizen Party (NCP) but hesitated to spend on the plane crash victims, when the NCP had yet to acquire registration and did not have 200 voters in 25 upazilas.

Mentioning Sheikh Hasina as the champion of crisis management, Ronu said she had arranged vaccines for all Bangladeshis against Covid-19 pandemic and kept the casualties under control.

The Awami League leader stated that Sheikh Hasina did not need public donations or foreign aid to address the situation.

Ronu said that those who rule the country are insensitive, mentioning how Yunus shamelessly posed for a photoshoot in a cheerful mood and had orange juice with politicians.

Murdering people is very normal to them, as they have been involved in such crimes since July last year, when they captured power through widespread violence in a meticulously designed conspiracy, he said.

He urged all expatriates and ordinary citizens of Bangladesh to extend their support to the victims of the Milestone plane crash. However, he warned the students about Yunus, who has been destroying the country as an agent of the West.

โ€œEven our dead bodies are not safe in the hands of Yunus,โ€ Ronu added.
