A woman named Saida Begum was allegedly killed in an attack carried out by BNP activists over a Facebook โHahaโ reaction in Ukhiya of Coxโs Bazar. The incident has created tension and fear in the area. The attack took place around 8:00 pm on Saturday in the Typalong village of Rajapalong Union.
Saida Begum was the wife of local resident Sabbir Ahmed. After the incident, emotional scenes unfolded at Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex as family members and relatives cried in grief.
According to local sources, slogans reading โJoy Bangla, Joytu Sheikh Hasinaโ were recently written on the wall of a local madrasa in Typalong. Following the incident, local BNP leaders filed complaints at the police station against several leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and Chhatra League.
On Saturday evening, local Chhatra Dal activist Md. Jisan made a Facebook post about the wall writing. Md. Yunus, identified as a banned Chhatra League activist, reacted to the post with a โHahaโ emoji. The reaction quickly sparked tension on social media.
It is alleged that a group of BNP activists later attacked Yunusโs house in anger. During the attack, vandalism and physical assault reportedly took place. Saida Begum was seriously injured during the violence. Family members rushed her to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead.
The victimโs family claimed that the attack was planned and demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved.
However, some people from the accused side claimed the incident was being politically exaggerated and said the real facts should come out through a proper investigation.
Police have deployed additional forces in the area to maintain law and order. Authorities said the situation is currently under control and an investigation is underway to identify those responsible.
