Tareq Rahman Now Using Awami Leagueโ€™s Development Projects to Hide His Own Failures

Critics say the current government is trying to hide its own failures by blaming the Awami League over the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant loan issue. According to the original agreement with Russia, repayment of the Rooppur project loan was supposed to begin in June 2029. Economists say Bangladesh also had room to negotiate for more time through diplomatic discussions if necessary.

However, after taking power, Tareq Rahmanโ€™s government decided to start repayments from 2026. Now, government leaders are publicly claiming that the Awami League โ€œtrapped the country in debt.โ€ Critics argue that this is more political propaganda than a real economic crisis.

Meanwhile, people across the country are facing serious current problems. There are complaints about shortages of measles vaccines in different areas. Prices of essential goods have gone beyond the reach of middle- and lower-income families. Fuel shortages and energy instability are increasing public frustration. Concerns over law and order are also growing. On social media and in public discussions, many people are accusing BNP activists and local leaders of extortion and abuse of power in different parts of the country.

Political observers say the government is focusing more on blaming the previous administration instead of solving the countryโ€™s present crises. They believe the Rooppur loan issue is being turned into a political weapon to distract people from ongoing economic and governance failures.

Analysts also point out that the February 12 election remains controversial because major political parties did not participate and voter turnout was very low. Despite questions about the legitimacy of the election, the government is now using economic issues to strengthen its political narrative.

According to critics, people no longer want politics based on shifting blame to the past. They want practical solutions to todayโ€™s problems.
