Power Generation Declines Due to Fuel Crisis and Mechanical Faults

Power generation in the country has declined due to the ongoing fuel crisis, along with mechanical failures in several coal-based power plants, officials from the Power Development Board (PDB) have said.

According to PDB officials, instability in the global fuel market and supply shortages have prevented power plants from operating at full capacity. The situation has been further aggravated by technical faults in several key coal-fired power plants, reducing overall electricity output.

Officials also noted that although some plants are undergoing routine maintenance, unexpected mechanical failures have disrupted production. As a result, the national grid is experiencing reduced power supply, raising concerns about increased load shedding in different parts of the country.

The PDB stated that steps are being taken to address the situation. Repair work at the affected plants is being carried out on a priority basis, and coordination is ongoing with relevant authorities to stabilize fuel supply.

Experts suggest that, in the long term, ensuring stability in the power sector will require diversification of energy sources and stronger emphasis on regular maintenance of power plants.
