Expatriate Bangladeshis Condemn Ban on Awami League Activities

Expatriate Bangladeshis living in different parts of the world have strongly condemned and protested the ban imposed on the activities of the Bangladesh Awami League.

In a joint statement issued today, they said, โ€œBangladesh is our motherland, and we are proud to be Bangladeshi. We are deeply concerned to see that our beloved country is going through a serious crisis.โ€ They claimed that the national election held on February 12 was ะฝะตะทะฐะบะพะฝ and that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) formed the government through that election.

The statement further alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami has taken seats as the opposition in the National Parliament, and that the BNP-Jamaat alliance passed a law banning the activities of the Awami League. They described this move as against democracy and political rights.

The expatriates also stated that the Awami League led Bangladeshโ€™s autonomy movement, independence struggle, and the Liberation War. They claimed that a large portion of the population still supports the party.

They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the ban, warning that the consequences would not be good if their demand is not met.
