In a notable event at Keraniganj Central Jail, prisoners including former ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), and government officials participated in the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation, yet avoided interacting with a state witness linked to a high-profile case.
The Eid prayers were held on Saturday morning at around 8:30 AM under strict security measures. Approximately 123 former ministers, MPs, and officials imprisoned in connection with the 2024 mass uprising case attended the congregation. The prisoners exchanged greetings and shared Eid wishes, celebrating the festival together despite being behind bars.
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who served as a state witness in the July killing case against Sheikh Hasina and others, was also present. However, reports indicate that none of the former political leaders, ministers, or MPs interacted with him, deliberately avoiding contact during the event.
A source at Keraniganj Central Jail confirmed the details, highlighting that the Eid prayers were conducted smoothly with strict security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.
The congregation reflected a rare glimpse of festive spirit among prisoners, while also underlining the continued sensitivities surrounding politically significant cases in the country.
