Sheikh Hasina Pays Tribute on Father of the Nationโ€™s 105th Birth Anniversary and National Childrenโ€™s Day

On March 17, marking the birth anniversary of Bangladeshโ€™s Father of the Nation, the great architect of independence, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and National Childrenโ€™s Day, the President of the Bangladesh Awami League and daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina, paid heartfelt tribute and expressed her deep love and respect.

Sheikh Hasina recalled that during his lifetime, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahmanโ€™s birthday was celebrated very modestly, and he would spend the day with children. After independence, the Awami League government established the tradition of observing this day as National Childrenโ€™s Day. However, during changes in political power, unconstitutional governments had canceled official programs on March 17, including the Childrenโ€™s Day celebrations.

Sheikh Hasina said, โ€œThe young boy who grew up along the banks of the Madhumati River eventually became Bangabandhu. He not only gave us an independent homeland but also the identity of a self-respecting nation.โ€

She further highlighted that the world today is passing through an unstable period. Peace-loving people are distressed by violent aggression. In this crisis, Bangabandhuโ€™s principle of โ€˜friendship with all, enmity with noneโ€™ remains highly relevant. He always wanted Bangladesh to remain independent, free from control by any military alliance or global power, and to walk proudly on its own path.

Commenting on the current political situation in the country, Sheikh Hasina noted that various conspiracies and the influence of anti-democratic forces have created prolonged uncertainty. Yet, by adhering to Bangabandhuโ€™s vision of a secular, exploitation-free, and democratic โ€œGolden Bengal,โ€ this challenging period can be overcome.

Sheikh Hasina called upon the youth and children to pursue higher education while learning from Bangabandhuโ€™s courageous life. She urged them to face any aggression with honesty, patriotism, and courage. Her message emphasized that fulfilling the dreams of the Father of the Nation should be a lifelong commitment.
