Allegations of corruption and irregularities against former advisers of the interim government are gradually coming to light. According to relevant sources, hundreds of complaints have been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which are currently under preliminary review.
Sources said that complaints have been filed against almost all advisers of the interim government, including former Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. The allegations include abuse of power, bribery, irregularities and money laundering.
Following the allegations, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sought bank account information of former advisers Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Fawzul Kabir Khan, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adilur Rahman Khan, and the Chief Adviserโs Special Assistant Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury. The agency is investigating whether there were any unusual financial transactions related to money laundering or illicit fund transfers.
According to sources, the highest number of allegations has been raised against former Local Government, Rural Development and Youth & Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. His personal assistant, Moazzem Hossain, also faced numerous allegations of corruption and irregularities, which are currently being investigated by the ACC. In addition, tax records reviewed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) reportedly found unusually high income declarations by the brother of his driver.
Meanwhile, the ACC is also investigating corruption allegations against former Dhaka city administrator Ejaz, who was reportedly appointed following a recommendation from Asif Mahmud.
Allegations have also surfaced against a former secretary to adviser Nahid Islam, accused of abusing influence in recruitment processes and embezzling large sums of money through irregularities. Additionally, complaints have been filed with the ACC accusing another former adviser, Mahfuz Alam, of taking bribes in exchange for issuing television channel licenses.
Corruption allegations have also been reported against Ahsan H. Mansur and former Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum.
Commenting on the matter, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Iftekharuzzaman said that if the allegations are proven true, those responsible must be held accountable. โNo one is above the law, and any credible allegation should be properly investigated,โ he added.
