Police have recovered the body of a Janata Bank employee, Alamgir Hossain (40), four days after he went missing in Bhairab of Kishoreganj. The body was found on Wednesday (March 4) around 8:00 pm in a bush beside a railway line in the Mirarchar area of the upazila.
Alamgir Hossain was an employee of the Janata Bank Bhairab branch. He was the son of the late Abdul Majid from Nurpur Lombahati village in Shaistaganj upazila of Habiganj district. His wife, Taslima Begum, is the daughter of Zahir Uddin Mia from Adarshapara village under Kalikaprasad union of Bhairab and works as a teacher at a local government primary school.
According to police and family sources, Alamgir Hossain went missing four days ago after leaving his workplace or residence. Family members searched in various places but failed to locate him.
On Wednesday evening, locals spotted a body lying in a bush beside the railway line in the Mirarchar area and informed the police. Later, Bhairab Police Station and railway police rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and identified it.
Police also recovered a mysterious bottle from beside the body during the rescue. Initially, it is suspected that the bottle may contain a poisonous substance. However, to determine whether the death was a murder or a suicide, the bottle will be sent to a laboratory for chemical analysis.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, Ataur Rahman Akand, said police recovered the body after receiving the information. According to the preliminary inquest report, no injury marks were found on the body.
He added that the body has been sent to the morgue of Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Further legal steps will be taken after receiving the autopsy report.
