Awami League President and five-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strongly condemned the parliamentary election under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, describing it as a โwell-planned farceโ orchestrated illegally and unconstitutionally.
She also expressed gratitude to the massesโincluding mothers, sisters, and minority communitiesโfor rejecting what she called a sham election staged by Yunus, who she accused of seizing power unlawfully.
In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon, she asserted that the electionโconducted without the participation of the Awami Leagueโcompletely disregarded peopleโs voting rights, democratic values, and the spirit of the Constitution. She labelled it a deceptive, voter-less process that lacked any legitimacy.
Sheikh Hasina highlighted widespread irregularities that began on the evening of February 11, including the seizure of polling centres, gunfire, vote-buying, the distribution of money, pre-stamping of ballots, and agents signing result sheets prematurely.

She noted that by morning, voter turnout was negligible in most polling centres nationwide, with many centresโespecially in the capital Dhaka and other areasโseeing no voters at all.
Citing the Election Commissionโs briefing, she pointed out that by 11am (just three and a half hours into voting), only 14.96% of eligible voters had participated. This extremely low turnout, she argued, demonstrated the peopleโs clear rejection of the Awami League-free election.
The statement also referenced prior days of continuous attacks, arrests, intimidation, and fear directed at Awami League voters, supporters, well-wishers, and minority communities to force them to vote. Despite such pressure and harassment, people overwhelmingly boycotted the process, leaving most polling centres empty.

Sheikh Hasina further raised concerns about suspicious and abnormal increases in voter numbers on the lists, particularly in Dhaka city, which she said warranted serious scrutiny.
In light of these allegations, Sheikh Hasina made the following demands. She called for the immediate cancellation of this voterless, illegal, and unconstitutional election. She further demanded the resignation of Muhammad Yunus, whom she described as a murderous fascist. She insisted on the release of all political prisonersโincluding teachers, journalists, intellectuals, and other professionalsโalong with the complete withdrawal of all false cases filed against them.
She also demanded the revocation of the suspension imposed on Awami League activities. Finally, she called for the holding of free, fair, and fully inclusive elections under a neutral caretaker government in order to restore the genuine voting rights of the people.
