Awami League President, five-time Prime Minister, and Bangabandhuโs daughter Sheikh Hasina has expressed grief and sympathy for those killed, injured, and affected by the most devastating earthquake in recent memory on Friday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the exiled leader said that 10 people died, hundreds were injured, and the country suffered immense damage due to the terrible earthquake that struck Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her condolences for the victims and extended her sympathy to the bereaved families. She also wished a swift recovery for those who were injured.
Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. Keeping this in mind, the Awami League government has governed the state with policies of inclusive and sustainable development.

โThis illegal occupying government has no accountability to the people, and that is why they are not actively working to ease the suffering of citizens. Instead, they are handing over the country and its national resources to foreigners. She prayed to the Most Merciful Almighty Allah to protect the people of Bangladesh from major disasters and calamities,โ she added.
The 5.7 magnitude earthquake was felt in the country at 10:38am on Friday, with the epicentre in Madhabdi, Narsingdi. Ten people, including two children, were killed, and several hundred people were injured in different districts.
Another 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Bypail of Ashulia at 10:36am on Saturday. The epicenter of the earthquake is Palash Upazila of Narsingdi.
