Awami League President and exiled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hopes that the people of Bangladesh will observe the complete shutdown and force the usurper, murderer, and militant patron Muhammad Yunus to resign.
According to media reports, traffic movement in Dhaka was thin all through Sunday, with very few people on the streets. There was no procession or clash over observing the shutdown. However, in the evening, cocktail blasts were reported in some areas of the capital.
โThose who do injustice and injustice will be judged by the people on Bengali soil one day. So, I will tell everyone that there is nothing to be afraid of. I am alive; I will live. I will do the welfare of the people of the country again. And I will prosecute these criminals,โ she said in a virtual discussion on Saturday night.
She again thanked everyone for making the November 13 lockdown a success.
Sheikh Hasina: Our movement will continue
DMP chief sparks outrage for shoot-on-sight order amid human rights concerns
She said that the Yunus regime will not be able to destroy her party. โThis Awami League was established on the soil and by the people. It was not formed from the pockets of any illegal power grabber. That is why the foundation of the Awami League is very strong. Its roots are deep. It is not easy to uproot it.โ
Describing the ordeals of the party leaders and workers, Sheikh Hasina said that the students are not getting the opportunity to study. Even when they go to Dhanmondi 32, mobs catch them and beat them.
She mentioned the torture of Salma Begumโa decent womanโat Dhanmondi 32 by a leader of the NCP, Zannatara Rumi. When some people tried to save the woman, some other people stopped them to allow the violence.
โWhat kind of behaviour do they have? What did their parents teach them? What education did they get? Is the girl a nurse again? A nurse (NCP leader) serves people; can she beat up a person like this? It is unthinkable.โ
Police detained her after the torture, but the perpetrator proudly defended her actions while talking to the media.
On Thursday night, Sheikh Hasina said that her partyโs movement will continue until the resignation of the Yunus administration and restoration of democracy. โOur movement will continueโฆuntil all the prisoners are released and the false cases they are being harassed with are quashed. We will free Bangladesh from terrorism and militants and bring back peace and security to the lives of the people of Bangladesh,โ she said during a virtual meeting of the party.
Thanking the party members and the people of the country for making the lockdown programme successful, she said: โWe will work for the socio-economic development of Bangladesh and give the people of the country a better life again, where people will live in peace. They will live a beautiful life. This is the goal of our movement.โ
Buoyed by the widespread adherence to its lockdown programme, the Awami League announced countrywide protests and demonstrations on November 14 and 15, followed by a complete shutdown on November 16 and 17.
The movement, the party vowed, will persist until Yunusโs resignation, framing it as a democratic pushback against what it calls an โillegalโ regime mired in corruption, human rights abuses, and economic sabotage.
The rejuvenated spirit stems from the Dhaka lockdown observed on November 13, the fourth day of a nonviolent campaign. The day was marked by empty streets, halted public transport, and closures of schools, colleges, and officesโmany of which preemptively shifted to remote work amid fears of unrest.
