Prices of vegetables, fish, eggs going beyond peopleโ€™s reach

Meanwhile, regarding the increase in vegetable prices, a seller named Md. Shah Alam said: “Today, vegetable prices have increased again. Maybe it has increased due to the rain. With the current market situation, I don’t see much possibility of prices coming down.”

A reporter of Bangla Tribune visited the kitchen market in Mirpur No. 1 on September 26 and found that the prices of almost all types of vegetables have increased today compared to a week ago. The situation is the same in the egg market. The price of fish is also skyrocketing. However, there has been some relief in the chicken market.

Vegetable prices are not decreasing

Today, Indian tomatoes are being sold in the market for Tk120 per kg, domestic carrots for Tk80, Chinese carrots for Tk120, long brinjal for Tk100, white round brinjal for Tk120, black round brinjal for Tk160, beans for Tk240, local cucumber for Tk80, bitter gourd for Tk100, kankrol for Tk100, dhundol for Tk100, patal for Tk80-120, chichinga for Tk80, jhinga for Tk100, barbati for Tk100, radish for Tk100, Kachur mukhi for Tk100, green chillies for Tk200, coriander leaves (depending on quality) for Tk300, papaya for Tk40, sweet pumpkin for Tk50-60 per kg.

And depending on quality, each gourd is sold for Tk80-100, rice pumpkin for Tk70-80, and banana and lemon at Tk10 per piece.

Potato, onion prices remain the same

In this case, it has been seen that the prices of Chinese carrots, all types of brinjal, bitter gourd, kankrol, dhandas, jhinga, barbati, radish, and gourd (per piece) have increased by Tk20 per kilogram. The prices of patal, chichinga, and dhundal have increased by Tk10. The prices of beans have increased by Tk80-90 per kilogram. Apart from this, the prices of other vegetables are the same as before.

Amidst the unbridled prices, the market for potatoes, onions, ginger, and garlic is somewhat stable. There has been no change in the prices of these products even today. Only the price of Chinese ginger has decreased by Tk20 per kilogram.

Today, cross-variety onions are being sold at Tk70-80 depending on size and quality. Of these, small onions are sold at Tk70 and large onions at Tk80. Local onion is sold at Tk80, red potato at Tk25, white potato at Tk25, Bogra potato at Tk35-40, local garlic at Tk100-120, Chinese garlic at Tk140-160, Chinese ginger at Tk180, and Indian ginger at Tk160-180 depending on the quality.

Egg prices increase

Today, red chicken eggs are sold at Tk125-130 per dozen, white eggs at Tk120 and duck eggs at Tk190-200. Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk163-180, cock chickens at Tk260-290, layer chickens at Tk280-300, and local chickens are being sold at Tk550 per kilogram.

It was seen that today, the price of red eggs per dozen has increased by Tk5-10, and the price of white eggs has increased by Tk5. However, the price of duck eggs has decreased by Tk10 per dozen. The price of broiler chicken per kg has decreased by Tk10-17 per kg, cock chicken by Tk10-40, and layer chicken by Tk5-10. In addition, beef is being sold at Tk780 per kg and mutton at Tk1,200 per kg today.

Chicken seller Md. Sultan said that the price of chicken will be low this month. It is not increasing any more. However, it may increase again next month.

Depending on size and weight, hilsa fish is sold at Tk1,000-2,400, ruhi at Tk300-700, katal at Tk300-600, shrimp at Tk800-1,300, koi at Tk250, pabda at Tk400-700, shing at Tk400-1,200, tengra at Tk600-800, bele at Tk800-1,200, boal at Tk600-1,200, and rupchanda at Tk1,000-1,400 per kg.

Grocery prices remain unchanged

The prices of grocery products remain unchanged. Packet fine rice is Tk155, loose rice is Tk90-130 depending on the quality, small lentils are Tk155, thick lentils are Tk105, large moong dal is Tk140, small moong dal is Tk170, khesari dal is Tk100, boot dal is Tk115, chickpeas are Tk110, and mashkalai dal is Tk180.

Bottled soybean oil is sold at Tk198 per litre, loose soybean oil is Tk172, canned ghee is Tk1,450-1,550, loose ghee is Tk1,250, packaged sugar is Tk110, loose sugar is Tk100, two-kg packet flour is Tk130, two-kg packet flour is Tk130, and loose mustard oil is Tk220 per litre. Besides, cardamom is being sold at Tk4,750 per kg, cinnamon at Tk500, cloves at Tk1,280, white pepper at Tk1,350 and black pepper at Tk1,180 per kg.
